Secret Rome Golf Cart Tour

This tour of Secret Rome by Golf Cart will make you discover amazing hidden gems of the Eternal City. If you have already seen the major highlights and are eager to go off the beaten track, this tour will be the perfect choice for you.

Pickup and first churches

Our Secret Rome tour by Golf Cart starts at your accommodation – as long as it is located within the very city centre – from where we set off on a journey to discover the less known attractions Rome has to offer. The very first stop is the Church Sant’Ignazio, a baroque masterpiece with trompe-l’oeil frescos made in the17th Century, sometimes referred to as the “Baroque Sistine Chapel”. From there, we head for the Basilica San Pietro in Vincoli to admire one of Michelangelo’s greatest works: the statue of Moses, fashion out of a single block of marble, an absolute wonder housed in this elegant Renaissance church.

The Papal Basilicas and Saint Sebastian’s gate

Next, there are stops at the two most important churches in Rome beside Saint Peter’s: Saint Mary the Major and Saint John in Lateran. Each of these Papal basilicas, among the oldest in town, houses a holy door, that gets open during the Jubilee year. After that, our tour of Secret Rome by Golf Cart takes you to Saint Sebastian’s gate (porta San Sebastiano), the biggest and best preserved of the Roman gates through the city wall. First erected towards the end of the 2nd Century A.D., the gate was later raised and enlarged, and now comprises two high watchtowers and a single arch. The lower part is covered in marble, on which the victorious Roman troops carved the Archangel Gabriel, to celebrate their victory over Robert of Anjou in 1327.

Caracalla, Pyramid and Aventine

Then, we proceed further to the impressive remains of the baths of Caracalla, the second largest thermal complex of ancient Rome. Realised at the beginning of the 3nd Century A.D. under the reign of Caracalla, it could fit some 1,500 people, and featured a number of pools, saunas, gyms and gardens. From there we reach the Piramide Cestia, a mausoleum in Egyptian style built in I Century B.C. This Golf Cart tour of Secret Rome is not finished yet, as it takes to the Aventine Hill, to visit the oldest church in Rome, the Basilica Santa Sabina, and enjoy a view of the entire city from the Orange Garden.

You’ll be hitting the best attractions in town plus some secret spots, and it’s the perfect way to see a lot in little time, get a feel for the city and identify the sights you want to return to during your stay in Rome.

Pickup and Ancient Rome

Get picked up at your accommodation, upon condition it’s located in the historical district, and set off to discover Rome’s key sites on this Golf Cart tour. You will see the most known sites of the Eternal City: the Colosseum is definitely one of them. You will be able to enjoy a great view of the monument and learn its history, how it was built and what kind of shows ran there. After that, comes the Circus Maximus – the gigantic stadium for the chariot races – and the Palatine Hill, the legendary place of foundation of Rome itself, which was later chosen by several emperors for their palaces to be built.

On the way to the Trevi Fountain

The next stops are at the Mouth of Truth, to discover the story behind it, and at the Forum Boarium, to see the oldest standing building of the Eternal City. Our journey through Rome by Golf Cart continues on to Piazza Venezia, the famous Trevi Fountain. Arguably the most photographed fountain on earth, the Trevi fountain is the lifework of Nicola Salvi, it was finished in the 2nd half of the 18th Century and it’s still supplied nowadays by a Roman aqueduct. Don’t miss out on the opportunity of throwing a coin into the water to ensure your comeback to Rome.

Navona and Pantheon

Then, we go to Piazza Navona, a very fascinating square with a unique shape, the origin of which you will learn on this private golf cart tour of Rome. The square features the Fountain of the Four Rivers, a 17th Century masterpiece realised by Gianlorenzo Bernini. After that, we reach the Pantheon, the best preserved of all Roman buildings. Erected in the 2nd Century A.D., to replace an older temple, it used to be the temple to all the gods of Ancient Rome. Turned into a church in 608 A.D., it’s the oldest place of worship in use, as holy mass still takes place here.

Castel Sant’Angelo and the Vatican

Finally, it’s time to head to the river Tiber, where stands the majestic Castel Sant’Angelo. Once the monumental grave of the emperor Hadrian, the building underwent several transformations (fortress, prison, papal residence, firefighters barrack) and it can be considered the best example of how the Eternal City has changed over time. From there, we head for Vatican City for a quick visit (only the square and the Saint Peter’s Basilica from outside) to the smallest country in the world. This private golf cart tour of Rome in golf ends at your accommodation, or wherever you’d like to be dropped off in the historical center.
